- How Australia’s legal system was built. From six separate colonies to a federation, you get a brief, clear history of how we got the system we have today.
- The Constitution and what it means for business. The Commonwealth Parliament has power over 39 areas, including corporations, intellectual property, and banking. You’ll know which matters are federal and which are state.
- The separation of powers. Parliament, the executive, and the courts. Who makes the laws, who administers them, and who interprets them. This is the architecture of the Australian legal system.
- Statute law vs common law. Two very different sources of law, both of which can affect your business. You’ll understand the difference and why it matters.
- How legal disputes are resolved. Court is a last resort, not a first one. You’ll learn the five main methods of dispute resolution and the benefits and pitfalls of each.
